Saving, syncing, and asking AI are different
Opening Glean does not upload your local devotional or prayer library. You can keep using local features without an account. If you choose encrypted sync, selected private records are encrypted on your device before upload so they can be available through your account.
Asking an AI service for help is a separate action. To respond, the service needs the text and context you deliberately submit. That might be a reflection, selected prayer wording, answers to guided questions, or a reviewed transcript. Encrypted storage does not mean an AI processor can answer a request without receiving its relevant text.
The privacy notice explains these different paths, the service providers involved, and how information is retained.
Review the request before you send it
In the Apple app, Glean presents an AI data-sharing disclosure before sending personal text to an AI service. Read what will be sent and who will receive it. You can decline and continue using non-AI features.
- Review your prompt, selected text, or voice transcript.
- Remove details you do not want included, especially information about someone else.
- Check the selected AI option and any displayed credit cost.
- Send when you are comfortable with the request, then review the result before keeping or sharing it.
Permission can be withdrawn in Settings → Glean AI → AI data sharing. Turning permission off stops future requests that need it; it does not undo a request you already sent.
Your AI option changes where the request goes
Hosted Glean AI sends the necessary request through Glean’s service to its AI processors. Prayer wording, audio, and other specialized features can use different processing paths. Follow the disclosure for the particular action instead of assuming every AI feature uses the same provider.
With your own Gemini key on Apple platforms, the app sends the request and key directly to Google’s Gemini API. The web experience uses Glean’s compatibility service to forward them. If you copy a prompt into another AI tool yourself, you choose that service and its terms apply.
Keep API keys private. Never paste one into a feedback board or send it to support.
Voice input and sharing remain choices
Raw microphone audio for Reflection Guide and Guided Prayer is processed on the iPhone. A transcript you review and deliberately submit can still be part of an AI request. Reading a prayer photo with AI is also different from using on-device text recognition; check the option you select.
Saving a private prayer does not automatically share it. Review the separate sharing preview and recipients before sending. AI suggestions are drafts to consider, not something you must accept or publish. You can edit the wording, keep your original, or continue your practice without using AI at all.
